La Bouscatiere

La Bouscatiere shower room

The brief for this guest shower room was to create a space that felt attractive, playful and warm, all within a very modest budget.

Previously cold and dated, with grey tiles covering the walls and floor, the aim was to transform the room without major building works. Instead of removing the existing finishes, we worked with them — layering warmth and texture to shift the atmosphere entirely.

Natural cork was introduced to the lower half of the walls to soften the space and add depth, paired with a decorative wallpaper above to bring character and subtle pattern. Simple timber detailing helps tie everything together.

For the floor, we designed a custom checkerboard layout using linoleum, framing the room with a bold border to give it definition and energy.

As the shower room also functions as a visitors' cloakroom, the shower was concealed behind a tailored curtain and pelmet, allowing it to feel more like a considered interior rather than a purely functional space. An antique oak cupboard adds charm and reinforces the layered, collected feel.

The result is a small room with a big personality: warm, welcoming and far removed from its former self.
